Poker Legend Phil Hellmuth Watches Son Net Career-Best Score
Phil Hellmuth III Won $27,050 During The Filming Of A Poker Night In America Episode In Reno
The apple may not fall far from the tree when it comes to poker for the Hellmuth family.
Phil Hellmuth III has been mixing it up in poker rooms recently with his dad. According to a video released by his father, he recorded the biggest win of his gambling career.
Hellmuth noted that the younger Phil won $27,050 while filming the Poker Night in America cash game show at the Grand Sierra Casino in Reno. It appeared the senior Hellmuth was pleased with the result and ready to celebrate the win.
“Wooohooo, biggest win of your life Phillip,” Hellmuth noted on the video. “You’ve been working hard at poker here.”
Mike Matusow was also part of the game and Hellmuth told his son to cash in his chips and they planned to hit the high-limit blackjack table afterward. Hellmuth III seemed a bit more reserved on camera than his father but was happy to win nonetheless.

In January, the Hellmuths hit the poker table in Las Vegas as part of the PokerGO Tour Kickoff Series. Hellmuth III made his debut in the PokerGO studio at Aria, playing three $5,000 buy-in events.
“I staked Phillip for the three PokerGO studio tourneys,” Hellmuth said. “I thought he would learn a lot, and he did. I think he has great talent and great potential. He is not a professional poker player yet, but maybe by the next WSOP he will be a pro.”
The pair later headed to the cash game tables and Hellmuth posted a video of Phillip taking a pot off of his father. The 34-year-old Hellmuth III has spent most of his career working as a banker but has been playing more since last summer, according to the elder Hellmuth.
“He started playing a lot of poker in May, and has played around 160 days over the last 320 days,” Hellmuth told Card Player. “He has played both tourneys and cash games.”
That work appears to be paying off after the nice run in Reno.
His father recently made news by signing an online poker ambassador deal with Rush Street Interactive, which also owns the Poker Night in America show. He also made news earlier this year by announcing that he won’t play this year’s World Series of Poker main event this summer, saying the event favored younger players and had simply become an “endurance contest.”
